Details:
Kanchenjunga region is one of the unspoiled trekking trails in eastern Nepal opened in 1988 to trekkers. The sight of Kanchenjunga, seen from Pangpema, the north base camp is unforgettable, a worthy destination itself. Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain on the Earth. Habitation consists of only a few scattered villages. Musk deer and blue sheep are found here and for the believers, the Yeti. Panoramic views of Mt. Everest 8848m, Mt. Makalu 8463mand Kanchenjunga 8598m massif will make the trip worthwhile. A special trekking permit is necessary to trek in this region.
"Kang-chen-zod-nga", meaning "Five Great Treasuries of the Snow", actually it has seven major summits. To the locals Kanchenjunga which stands at a height of 8585meters the third highest mountain in the world, is the abode of gods who bestow prosperity and goodwill on them and their lands, while to the climbers of this mountain the phrase "Five Great Treasuries of the Snow" takes on a slightly more ominous tone. The avalanches that Kanchenjunga throws down are said to be the largest anywhere!
