More Details of Saribung Expedition
Mt. Saribung Expedition is one the popular expeditions in the Mustang region. It is located in Damodar himal range close to Nepal Tibet border in the corner of Upper Mustang trekking trails. It was opened in 2006 by the Nepal government for the expedition. The Saribung trekking offers a beautiful view of snow-capped mountains of three different trekking destinations like Mt.Dhaulagiri(8167m), Mt.Manaslu(8163m) and Mt. Annapurna (8091m). Mustang is the last forbidden kingdom of Nepal with the beautiful landscape, mixed culture and adventurous Saribung pass.
The trails are rugged, cutting high into the cliff sides and asses, villages that have little changed over the centuries. It is one of the easiest expeditions in Nepal, one should physically fit for the expedition so that they can passes with ice and creases in between Damodar Kunda region and Nar-Phu valley. The trek starts goes from one place to another with great sceneries, cultures, religion and geographical variations. Hence trekkers can enjoy the fantastic and picturesque views of diversity in this region.
This Saribung Expedition is aimed at people who want a unique experience with an emphasis on trekking with a few days of climbing thrown into the mix. You will enjoy a fully supported, full service camping trek style expedition. A high level of supervision is given on the climbing sections, so little technical expertise is necessary with top guides and Sherpas on the job.
Day-01: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1348m)
Pick up from airport and transfer to hotel, organize check in. Short briefing that afternoon followed by orientation walk. Overnight at hotel.
Day-02: Sightseeing day in Kathmandu Valley:
Around Kathmandu Valley: The holy place of Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa & Kathmandu Durbar Square), arrange the necessary permit for Trekking and Climbing. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03- Drive to Pokhara (900m)
Trekking staff will pick you early in the morning and you’ll be driving to Pokhara (the city of lake). Evening time is free to explore the city. O/N Hotel (B)
Day 04- Morning flight to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2800m). 3 hrs
Early morning we are flying Northwest from Pokhara toward the great portal between the snow covered peaks of Annapurna and Daulagiri. You will enjoy the well-raised massifs of more than 8000 meters, and the deepest gorge on this planet. On arrival to Jomsom you will meet the rest of the trekking staff. From Kathmandu you will have a guide with you. We start to trek towards Kagbeni, the main gate to Upper Mustang. O/N Lodge (BLD)
Day 05- Trek to Chaile (3050m). 5 hrs
After breakfast, we start our walk up to east bank of Kaligandaki climbing over many ridges as it heads north and reaches Tange village. The town is a labyrinth of narrow alleys amongst white washed houses, fields of buckwheat, barley, wheat and apple orchards. Beyond Tange, we reach Chhusang village in about 1/2 hr, then cross river which continues north climbing up to huge red chunk of conglomerate that has fallen from cliff above, forming a tunnel where Kaligandaki follows. The trek now leaves the Kali Gandaki valley and climbs steeply up a rocky gully to Chaile. O/N Lodge (BLD)
Day 06- Trek to Geling (3500 m). 5-6 hrs
The climb continues along steep, treeless, waterless terrain, along the side of the spectacular steep canyon to a pass and cairn of rock. Then the trail makes a long gradual descent to some chortens on a ridge, and with a further descent before coming along a pleasant trail to Samar village. We climb above Samar to a ridge, then descend into a large gorge, which the trail goes into another valley field, crosses a stream and climbs up to a ridge at 3800 meters. The route climbs over yet another pass, follows a ridge and then descends to Shyangmochen. From there we gently climb to a pass at 3770meters and descend to Geling Village. O/N Lodge (BLD)
Day 07- Trek to Charang (3620m). 5-6 hrs
The trail climbs up to an beautiful pass “Nyi La” and fall away below blue, gray and red cliffs. After crossing a steel bridge of Tangmar Chu river, you will arrive to a Mani Wall, perhaps the longest and most spectacular Mani wall in Nepal. Climbing over another pass at 3600m, routes makes a long gentle descent to Charang village. The huge five-story white Dzong and red Gompa are the main attractions to visit and observe collections of statues and Thankas as well as many large paintings, of seated Buddha’s. O/N Lodge (BLD)
Day 08- Trek to Lo Manthang (3840m). 4-5 hrs
The trail climbs steadily until Lo-Gekar. Lo-Gekar Gompa is older than Samye Gompa of Tibet and one of the oldest Gompa of Nepal. After visiting Lo-Gekar continue walk to Lomanthang. The trail until Lo-Manthang is fine with some minor climbing. Finally from the ridge there is a view of the walled city of LO. After a short descent, cross a stream then climb up into the plateau of Lo-Manthang. O/N Lodge (BLD)
Day 09- Exploration day at Lo Manthang.
Today we explore the surrounding areas. Visit Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar. Namgyal Gompa situated on a hilltop serves as an important monastery of the local community and also as a local court. After visiting Namgyal Gompa continue the tour to Tingkhar, the last main village to the northwest of Lo-Mangthang and stroll back to hotel. Or you may have another option to visit the Tall Champa Lakhang “God house” the red Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the Entrance Hall which are the main attraction of this town. Another attraction is the fours torey building of the Raja’s palace as well as the surrounding panoramic views of the Himalaya. O/N Lodge (BLD)
Day 10 – Trek to Yara (3900m) 6-7 hrs
After breakfast, we leave Lo Manthang and start ascent till 3 hours and reach Dhi village. Further we descend for an hour, take lunch and pass the river to make steep climb to Yara village for 1 and half hour. O/N Camping (BLD)
Day 11 – Trek to Luri Gompa (4005m). 6-7 hrs
Today is short walking till Luri Gompa along river for 2 hours. There is Luri Gompa or Monastery situated at height of 4005m which is oldest and most famous cave monastery in Mustang region and was constructed in 15th century. Inside cave we see a big Old Chhorten and many images and statues of Protectors and Deities. O/N camping (BLD)
Day 12 – Trek to Ghuma Thanti (4600m) 7-8 hrs
We follow barren valley and cross a pass of 5100 meters today. It takes around 6 hours to reach Ghuma Thanti. O/N Camping (BLD)
Day 13 – Trek to Namta Khola (4890) 8 hrs
We continue walking in ups and down trail. After crossing 5600m we reach Damodar Kunda or lake then its short walk passing lake to Namta Khola. O/N Camping (BLD)
Day 14 – Trek to Saribung Base Camp (4950) 6-7 hrs
We walk in Tibetan plateau gaining height as we reach base camp for about 7 hours. O/N Camping (BLD)
Day 15 – Acclimatization day
Free day to rest or acclimatize walking to near hills and surroundings. O/N Camping (BLD)
Day 16 – Base camp to Camp I (5730m) 5-6 hrs
After breakfast, trek to Camp I, the trail is very hard because of the snow. We climb very slowly gaining altitude.
Day 17 – Summit Saribung Peak (6346m) and return to Base Camp 8-9 hrs
Early in the morning, we wake up and start climb up to summit of Saribung and peak. After spending some time in summit we return back to base camp.

Day 18 – Cross Saribung pass (5600m) to Nagoru (4400m) 7-8 hrs
We will traverse over Saribung pass and walk steep down through the snowy trail and follow the small stream until reaching Nagoru.
Day 19 – Contingency day
Day 20 – Trek to Phu Gaon (4080m) 5-6 hrs
we start walk on Tibetan plateau and barren valley with view of snowy peaks such as Himlung himal and others. We are already in unique and hidden valley. We’ll visit Tashi Lakhang Monastery, listed out as 108 world great Buddhist monasteries believed to be last monastery constructed by Karmapa Rinpoche. O/N Camping (BLD)
Day 21 – Trek to Meta (3560m) 5-6 hrs
We start trekking and pass the gate which is in end of village and drop down in to narrow valley until we reach Kyang. Kyang is reuned fort of Khampa settlement. There is place like Jhunam, Chyakhu and kyang here Khampa refugees from Tibet once captured and lived illegally. We continue walk to meta with spectacular view of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Day 22 – Trek to Koto (2600m) 6 hrs
Start walking steep down for a while and then through pine forest passing many streams and waterfall near Dharmashala. It takes around six hour to reach Kote from Meta. O/N Camping (BLD)
Day 23 – Trek to Dharapani (1860m) 5 hrs
Temang village is first passes as we start trekking which takes 2 hours through pine forest. From here we see Mt. Manaslu and other peaks. We trek down to Danaque then walk on flat trail reaching Dharapani. O/N lodge (BLD)
Day 24 – Trek to Jagat (1300m) 5 hrs
Firstly, cross iron bridge end of Dharapani village. Then continue walking along Marsyangdi river reaching Kotro. There will be many suspension bridge to cross till we reach Tal village. The trail drop down to river in rocky trail and climb up to dense forest reaching Chyamje village.
Day 24 – Drive to Besisahar. Rest day.
We’ll take jeep ride till besishar and rest our body after long journey.
Day 25 – Drive Besisahar to Kathmandu
Day 26 – Leisure day in Kathmandu
This pleasant day you may have full day at leisure and either relaxes at hotel because you may have tired body and sore legs from the trip. This one extra day we use as a reserve day just in case if you need one extra day on trip or some time flight to Jomsom can be cancelled or delay so always good to have this one reserve day after your trip. Stay overnight at same hotel on BB plan.
Day-27 – Departure from Kathmandu
A representative of Nord Extreme Himalaya will pick up from your hotel and transfer to the International Airport for your departure flight to your onwards destination. This is the time to say Bye! Bye!!
