Saribung Pass Trek  – Adventure into the Trans-Himalayan Wilderness

Mustang Saribung pass trekking is a challenging trekking trail in mid western part of Nepal. It’s a breath taking scenery of three Himalayan  mountains, Dhaulagiri 8167m, Mt. Manaslu 8163m, Mt. Annapurna 8091m. All combined with different religions, geographic elevation, Tibetan monasteries, beautiful landscape and crossing the challenging passes.
Mustang Saribung trek includes three different trekking regions Annapurna, Mustang and Narphu valley. Saribung trekking was recently  discovered in 2006 in Nepal Himalayas. Saribung peak climbing to 6324m is another attraction of this trip. We Nord Extreme Himalaya arrange Saribung expedition as per travelers’ choice. Saribung trekking trail is situated in isolated part of Mustang region of Damodar Himal, close to the Tibetan border.
Mustang Saribung pass trekking commence at Jomsom after 25 minutes scenic mountain flight from Pokhara. Himalaya Journey Trekking guide will lead you through beautiful Kaligandaki valley Kagbeni Chele Geiling Lo Manthang  Yara Thanti Namta khola and finally summit the Saribung peak. The trail continues via Saribung pass at 6020m descending to Phu gaun  reaching Annapurna circuit trekking trail at koto then heading to the Beshishar and by bus or private vehicle drive back to Kathmandu.
Autumn and spring are the best times to trek in Mustang Saribung pass but Himalaya Journey Trekking arranges customized Saribung pass trekking as per trekker holiday schedule. Minimum two person required for Mustang Saribung trekking to obtain the Mustang and Narphu valley trekking permit through government registered trekking company in Nepal.  Saribung pass Narphu valley trekking is the most challenging adventure trekking in mid western Nepal.

Day 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu (1,348 m):
Arrive in Kathmandu and meet your guide at the airport. Transfer to your hotel, check in, and enjoy a short briefing followed by an orientation walk. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2 – Kathmandu Sightseeing:
Explore the highlights of the Kathmandu Valley, including Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Trekking and climbing permits will also be arranged. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3 – Kathmandu to Pokhara (823 m):
After breakfast, drive approximately 6 hours along scenic countryside and river valleys to Pokhara. Transfer to your lakeside hotel and enjoy leisure time exploring the surroundings. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4 – Fly to Jomsom and Trek to Kagbeni (2,858 m):
Take an early morning flight to Jomsom, a major town in the Kali Gandaki valley. From Jomsom, trek along the riverbed for about 3 hours, passing Ekle-bhatti village and reaching Kagbeni, an ancient settlement on the Trans-Himalayan salt trade route. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 5 – Kagbeni to Chele (3,050 m):
After a permit check, trek along the Kali Gandaki river, passing Tangbe and Chhusang, through sandy and rocky trails. Cross cliffs and ridges to reach Chele village (18 km, ~5 hours). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 6 – Chele to Syanmochen (3,475 m):
Trek through Eklo Bhatti, ascending to Taklam La Pass (3,624 m) with panoramic views of Tilicho Peak, Nilgiri, and Damodar Danda. Descend to Samar for lunch, then trek onward to Syanmochen village (~8 km, 6 hours). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 7 – Syanmochen to Ghemi (3,520 m):
Climb over Yamda La Pass (3,850 m) and Nyi Pass (4,010 m), passing small villages and Tibetan-style houses. Descend to Ghemi after 5–6 hours of trekking. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 8 – Ghemi to Charang (3,500 m):
Trek along a plateau, cross the Ghemi Khola, and pass a long Mani wall before reaching Charang village (~6 hours). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 9 – Charang to Lo-Manthang (3,700 m):
Trek with views of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna I, and Bhrikuti Peak. Descend into Lo-Manthang, the walled capital of Upper Mustang. Explore the alleys, monasteries, and palace. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 10 – Explore Lo-Manthang:
Visit Namgyal Gompa, Tingkhar village, and other local monasteries, including the red Thugchen Gompa and the Raja’s palace. Donations for monastery visits are at your own discretion. Overnight at same camp.

Day 11 – Lo-Manthang to Yara (3,900 m):
Trek past Day-La, descend through Dhi village, and climb to Yara village, exploring stone wall caves along the way. Trekking distance is 6–7 hours. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 12 – Yara to Luri Cave Monastery (3,950 m):
Short trek to Luri Gompa, then ascend to Luri Cave Monastery, the oldest and most famous cave monastery in Mustang. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 13 – Luri Gompa to Ghuma Thanti (4,600 m):
Trek through barren valleys, crossing a 5,100 m pass. Carry a packed lunch; no cooking facilities available. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 14 – Ghuma Thanti to Namta Khola (4,890 m):
Traverse high-altitude trails and visit Damodar Kunda, a sacred lake. Trekking takes approximately 7 hours. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 15 – Namta Khola to Saribung Base Camp (4,950 m):
Gain altitude along the Tibetan plateau with high traverses to reach Saribung Base Camp (~6 hours). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 16 – Acclimatization Day:
Rest and acclimatize for further expedition. Explore surrounding hills. Overnight at the same tented camp.

Day 17 – Base Camp to Nagoru (4,400 m):
Cross the Saribung Pass (6,042 m), descend through snow trails along streams to reach Nagoru (~4 hours). Carry packed lunch. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 18 – Nagoru to Phu Gaon (4,080 m):
Trek along Tibetan plateau and barren valleys, exploring the hidden valley of Phu, its cultures, monasteries, and views of Himlung Himal. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 19 – Phu Gaon to Meta (3,560 m):
Descend through narrow valleys, passing remnants of Khampa settlements and viewing Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Trek for ~5 hours. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 20 – Meta to Koto (2,600 m):
Steep descent through pine forests, streams, and waterfalls. Cross suspension bridges and arrive in Koto after 6 hours of trekking. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 21 – Koto Drive to Kathmandu:
Drive 9 hours Drive back to Kathmandu, passing picturesque villages and mountain views. Transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 22 – Leisure Day in Kathmandu:
Rest and recover from the trek. Optional sightseeing or shopping. Overnight at hotel.

Day 23 – Departure:
Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight. End of the journey with unforgettable Himalayan memories.
