Upper Mustang is a restricted trekking region, so trekkers must obtain a special permit and travel with an authorized trekking agency and guide. The route passes through remote mountain villages, high-altitude desert landscapes, and areas with basic teahouse accommodation and limited facilities. Flights between Pokhara and Jomsom are weather-dependent and may occasionally be delayed or cancelled. Trekkers should be physically prepared for long walking days, carry appropriate clothing and equipment, stay hydrated, and have comprehensive travel insurance covering trekking and emergency evacuation. Spring, autumn, and the relatively dry monsoon period are generally suitable seasons for exploring Upper Mustang.
The Upper Mustang Trek was an incredible journey through a landscape unlike anywhere we had traveled before. The ancient villages, monasteries, and dramatic valleys were unforgettable.
